Balcony - E/C # 8 - PG
Mar. 29th, 2012 09:31 pmNo smut this time. I was inspired by a certain Royal Wedding from last year. :)

An Imperial wedding was, for lack of a better word, a madhouse.
Mara remembered a few of them from her early days in the Empire, like the wedding of Soontir Fel and Wynnsa Starflare. Of course, those weddings had been a bit different. None of them had been held in the Imperial Palace and none of them had involved the marriage of the monarch, thank the Force.
The wedding of Empress Jade and Knight Skywalker was cause for a much greater celebration. Mara had allowed it only because their marriage was seen as a symbolic gesture, the union of Empire and Republic, and she knew how important it was to improve public opinion about the Jedi.
Luke hadn’t appreciated taking part in such a circus, but with the Empress agreeing to it and his sister, a Councilor in the New Republic, constantly telling him how important it was…well, there was nothing he could do but smile and nod.
The very public ceremony was over, and now they were standing on one of the Imperial Palace's balconies, waving to the adoring crowds before heading inside for their much more private reception. Mara’s dress was heavy and ornate and she longed to change into her more comfortable but still stifling reception gown. Luke had argued that he should wear Jedi robes but he was outvoted. At least he wasn’t tugging at his dress uniform’s collar, like some of the other members of their wedding party.
Mara clutched at Luke’s waist while waving and smiling to the crowd. Some of them, Mara had learned, had camped out for days just for a chance to get a glimpse of the Empress and her Consort. Mara couldn’t believe that her life had taken this path. She hoped that Palpatine could see her, wherever he was. She glanced skyward, and gave an evil smile.
Luke must’ve sensed her train of thought because he squeezed her hand. He leaned over to whisper in her ear, “I think the holoshills are getting restless.”
“Really?” Mara gave a surprised look. “What do you suppose we do about it?”
Luke turned, laid his hand on her cheek, and kissed her tenderly. The crowd roared and Mara couldn’t resist—she grabbed Luke’s face and pulled him closer, deepening the kiss.
Through her haze, she could hear the snarky comment from the Best Man, standing behind her: “Way to go, Kid Consort!”
She rolled her eyes but didn’t break away from the kiss, hands snaking around Luke’s neck to get more comfortable.
She hoped the holoshills were happy, because she certainly was.

Date: 2012-03-30 07:04 pm (UTC)And Han...Han is an awesome best man. Did Luke have a bachelor party? If he did I doubt he would get a black eye like he did in Union...he would probably have a dozen Imperial Guards around him.
Nice story! I am loving it.
