CROWN
by JediMara77
She had a crown now. It was a preposterous idea—that Mara Jade, former Emperor’s Hand and Rebel—had a crown.
It was a gift from a very ambitious moff and his family, obviously seeking to avoid elimination under the Empress’s reforms. She had to admit that it was a very beautiful piece of jewelry. Adorned with Corellian bloodstones and other precious gems, it shone brightly even in dim light.
She had already been Empress for several months. This coronation was just a formality. Palpatine had declared himself Emperor. She wanted the title to be granted to her by the people. And so they’d planned a coronation. At least it was good for business.
She sat at her ornate vanity, staring at the object in her hands. She was already dressed for the occasion, her make-up and hair perfectly coiffed. The only thing left was to put on her crown.
But she didn’t want to, not just yet. Once she put on that crown, it would be official. She wanted one last moment as a normal girl.
As Mara.
The door opened and she felt her intended’s shining presence enter the room. He crossed quickly, kneeling beside her so she could see his face in the mirror. He looked at her, unabashed. “You look gorgeous.”
Mara tilted her head. “I dunno. I still think it’s too much.”
Luke chuckled against her shoulder. “Have you looked around lately? I don’t think they know the definition of ‘too much’ around here.”
Mara smiled and leaned her head against his, taking him in through the mirror. He wore a New Republic dress uniform, the most elaborate the new government had to offer, which was simple compared to the uniforms of the Imperial fleet. He still looked incredibly handsome. “I guess not.”
He placed a gentle kiss to her cheek, so as not to smudge her make-up. “Are you ready?”
She blew out a sigh and handed him her crown. “Will you do it? I’m afraid of messing up my hair.” It was a lie, of course. She wanted him to crown her, so she wouldn’t be crowning herself. She trusted his judgment, and his belief in her.
He stared at the crown for a moment, almost as if he was afraid of breaking it. “Um, sure…” He stood up and held it over her head. He slowly lowered it, making sure the comb was firmly in place and covered by her red-gold curls. He stroked her hair before pulling away, admiring his handiwork. “Is that okay?”
She smiled at her—at their—reflection. “Perfect. Thank you.”
He held out a hand. “Let’s go. You don’t want to keep your public waiting.”
She accepted his hand and let him pull her to a standing position. Arm in arm, they left the room. She glanced at her left hand, resting on his arm, and smiled at the ring there, so simple compared to the rest of her attire. “Do you think that the wedding will be this much of a circus?” she asked as the guards fell into formation around them.
He threw her a smirk. “Are you kidding? It’ll be worse.”

Date: 2012-03-27 12:54 am (UTC)And oooh, I think I get it! The New Republic IS the new government headed by an Empress, amirite? (please let this logic work, she says)
Hmm, well, no. LOL. There's still an Empire but there's also a New Republic. But they coexist peacefully. It helps that Leia is always comming Mara with unofficial advice. :D Mara's plan is to reinstate the Senate, bring reforms to the Empire, and then abdicate when it's time to combine the governments.
Does that make sense? LOL. All that doesn't really matter, anyway. It's just about the smut. ;)
My ideas for their wedding was inspired by William and Kate. :P
