Luke walked through the corridors of the Imperial Palace with a bounce in his step. He was close to his wife’s office, and his body was already tingling in anticipation of their daily lunch “meetings.” It was an open secret in the Palace what went on during the lunch hour. Luke had been embarrassed by this at first, but it worked to his advantage as nobody dared disturb the Empress and her Consort during that time.
He arrived at the office and pressed in the proper code on the keypad. Only a few people could get into this office uninvited. As the door slid open, Luke practically leapt inside, already tugging at his clothes.
He glanced up, and his mouth went slack. His hands dropped to his sides.
“Is that him?” a young, well-dressed man asked. “Oh, of course it’s him!” he answered his own question. The man stepped around the desk and shook Luke’s hand. “Hello, Master Skywalker! It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance!”
“Uh-huh.” Luke stared at the man’s face, then their hands, then his wife’s face, then back to the strange man who was interrupting his precious time alone with the Empress. “Who are you?”
“Oh! I’m so rude. Forgive me. I am Br’aad, her majesty’s new social secretary!”
Luke managed to extricate his hand, and quirked a brow. “Social secretary?”
Br’aad nodded vigorously. “Yes, sir!”
“Uh-huh,” Luke said again. He glanced at Mara, who was sitting in her high-backed chair, chin propped in her hands and looking positively frustrated. She shrugged and mouthed “sorry.”
Luke turned back to the new social secretary who had obviously not learned about the importance of lunch hour. “Welcome to the team, Br’aad. I believe it’s time for lunch, right Mara?” He pointedly looked at his wife, urging her to throw Br’aad out, but she just kept wearing her defeated expression.
“Oh, yes! I have scheduled the Empress for a lunch meeting with Moff Drevin. We need to hurry if we are to make it on time!” Br’aad stepped behind the desk and ushered Mara to her feet. His hands ran over Mara’s dress, smoothing out invisible wrinkles. He then proclaimed her fabulous.
Mara shook her head as she followed Br’aad to the door. Luke stopped her before she could leave. Br’aad looked annoyed, but Luke assured the younger man that it would just take a moment.
Once the door was shut, Luke and Mara stared at each other. “Social secretary?” Luke repeated.
Mara sighed. “Leia insisted. Said I was slacking in my duties or something.”
Luke growled. “I’m going to kill her.”
“She has a point,” Mara said quickly. “I’m not making the rounds as well as I should be.”
“Don’t you have a Chief of Staff for all your appointments?” Luke pointed out.
“Yes, but that’s for official business. Br’aad is for, well, social things.”
“And who hired him?”
Mara sighed again. “Leia.”
“Yup, I’m going to kill her.”
“You’re just frustrated because this means no more nooners.”
Luke threw her a look. “And you’re not?”
Mara rolled her eyes. “You’re more than welcome to attend these lunch meetings, you know. Then at least we could be spending time together.”
She looked hopeful, and Luke let out a breath. “You’re lucky I love you so much.”
Mara pulled him into an embrace, and kissed him lightly. “Yes, I am.”
Their kiss grew more heated, and Luke forgot about Br’aad waiting in the hallway. But then the door cycled open and Br’aad leaned against the doorway, tapping his foot impatiently. “Let’s go, people!” He clapped his hands and gestured for them to go ahead of him.
Luke rolled his eyes and pulled away from Mara. He held out his arm, she took it, and Empress and Consort walked down the hallway with their new social secretary in tow.

I love how he's like "Let's move, people!" Got to keep that E/C in line. And I love the ending with Luke and Mara walking down the hallway arm in arm. *sigh*

Date: 2012-04-11 05:04 pm (UTC)I have mixed feelings for Br'aad - I want to kill him but he is so funny.
I'd like revenge on Leia also.

Date: 2012-04-11 05:14 pm (UTC)But I just keep thinking if he's Brad Pitt of Brad from Rocky Horror Picture Show ;-P
If it's Brad Pitt, they can teach him a lesson and then invite him for a threesome! :D
Loved that all of the Palace know what's happening in the lunch hours!
Except Br'aad lol
Poor Luke and Mara - how can they survive even a day without their nooner? *G*
