KID CONSORT
by JediMara77
Han hadn’t wanted to come to this gala. He had much better things to do at home, like watch shockball. And bond with his children. While watching shockball.
Leia would hear nothing of it, of course. But the evening took a turn for the better when Mara and Luke—the Empress and her Consort—arrived almost an hour late to the festivities. Judging from the rosy glow on their cheeks and the goofy smiles they were trying and failing to hide, Han had a pretty good idea of what had caused their tardiness.
Han approached his brother-in-law while he was distracted, hungrily perusing the hors d’oeuvres table. “How’s the food, Kid Consort?”
Luke’s head snapped up when he heard Han’s nickname, a telltale blush already spreading across his neck. “Uh, hey Han. It’s good!”
“It should be, I’m missing shockball for this,” Han grumbled.
“What?”
“Oh, nothing. So, kid…you and the Empress showed up pretty late. Airspeeder problems?”
Luke took a big bite of one of the pastries, chewing slowly so he could regain his composure. “Uh, no,” he stammered after he’d finished swallowing. “We…um…lost track of something at home.”
“Right,” Han drawled. “Let me guess what that was—the time?”
Luke’s eyes widened comically. “What? No! No, it was, um, Mara’s dress.” Realizing how that must’ve sounded, he grimaced. “I mean, there was a problem with her dress! It needed, um, to be hemmed.” He took another bite and glanced around frantically, most likely looking for his wife, who was busy talking to some moff.
Han couldn’t help but grin at the kid’s obvious discomfort. “Don’t worry, Luke. You were just doing your royal duty, right? Gotta keep the Empress happy or the galaxy might break out in another civil war, ya know?”
Luke groaned. “Han…”
“I don’t blame you, kid; if I had your job I’d be smiling just as much.”
“Han, you’re a stay-at-home dad.”
Han waved his hand. “That’s not important! I bet she’s wearing one of those corset things under that dress, isn’t she?”
“I am not going to answer that question…”
“I remember the first time I saw your sister in one of those. Man she looked gorgeous—”
“Too much information, Han!”
“Right.” Han slapped Luke on the back. “Just let me give you a piece of advice, kid—ask Inga to get the kind with the hooks. They’re easier to rip open.”
Luke’s face turned beet red. “Um. Right. Sure.”
Han patted Luke on the shoulder one more time, then turned to leave. “Oh, one more thing!” He turned back to his brother-in-law and leaned in conspiratorially. “Next time something like this happens…make sure you check your fly before leaving the Palace.”
